Words cannot begin to express my admiration and respect for the mission and offerings of the Jazz Academy of Music. From the schoolyear JAM Ensemble and Orchestra, to the summer Camp offerings with opportunities for young students of jazz, to the now annual Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival reaching the widest possible audience of jazz enthusiasts, the Jazz Academy is devoted to keeping jazz alive in the Washington area and beyond. It continues to turn out talented musicians who have honed their skills here and have now entered the professional music world. It has inspired students, my own son included, to acquire and retain a great appreciation for the jazz genre, even though they move on to pursure other endeavors. This is a real gem in our midst.
