Pepe Gonzalez

Pepe Gonzalez, an outstanding bassist, born in Spain, has performed largely within the Jazz, Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian idioms. Pepe has had the pleasure of performing with Chris Vadala, Maria Rodríguez and her Latin Jazz Orchestra, Buck Hill, Pepper Adams, Dorothy Donegan, Clifford Jordan, Delfeayo Marsalis and Giacomo Gates. He has recorded with Chris Vadala, Kwelismith, Vinny Valentino, Ron Holloway, Sharone Clark, and Byron Morris and Unity. Pepe has played the Caribbean, Spain, France, Greece, Italy and the Soviet Union Festivals including the San Remo Jazz Festival, East Coast Jazz Festivals, Syracuse Jazz Festival, and the Cape May Jazz Festivals.

Ensemble and Orchestra

Auditions for the 2010/2011 Jazz Academy Ensemble and Jazz Academy Orchestra begin in September. Further details available in August.
The JAEnsemble Rehearsal are at 5:45pm and JAOrchestra at 7pm every other Wednesday at Sligo Middle School.

The Jazz Academy Orchestra [JAO] CD is featured in the Jazz Education Guide which is presented by Jazz Times! The guide normally acknowledges colleges and universities but the Jazz Academy of Music is honored that such a prestigious publication took the time to recognize the 7th through 12th grade students featured on the CD.

Jazz Academy Orchestra

The Jazz Academy Orchestra (JAO) meets every other Wednesday at Sligo Middle School, The next enrollment period is September 2010. Audition time slots will be available on the website in Mid-August.

Jazz Academy Ensemble

The Jazz Academy Ensemble (JAE) is for young instrumental musicians that are interested in playing and performing jazz music in a group setting. JAE is an excellent opportunity for young musicians who have never improvised or created a solo or those who are in the formative stages of developing their improvisational skills. The next class begins in September 2010.
