2016/2017 Jazz Academy Orchestra (JAO) Audition Application Form

Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2016 @ Sligo Middle School, 1401 Dennis Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20902.

Proceed to the band room toward the back of the school near the park. Audition should take between 15 – 20 minutes.

NOTE: Parents of students entering the 5th through 8th grade this Fall should call the office at 301-871-8418 before registering for an audition.

Steps After Audition
  1. Someone will contact you with availability based on your choices. You will be notified of the outcome of the audition the following Monday, September 19
    After hearing results --
    proceed with making your tuition payment.
    Click the orange "Tuition" button at the bottom of the left column to pay by Visa or Mastercard $265. You may also bring a check for $353 to the first rehearsal. Tuition is due Tuesday, September 20.

The Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Jazz Orchestra (MACJO) is the premier performing and networking honor group for select collegiate jazz musicians in the Mid-Atlantic region. The MACJO was founded in 2009 as an initiative of the Cumberland Jazz Society. Effective August of 2016, MACJO became a division of the Jazz Academy of Music.

MACJO has performed at such notable venues as Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, The Kennedy Center, St. Peters Church (NYC), Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference in New Orleans, in addition to their annual April performance in Cumberland, MD. This year marks the group’s debut performance on the Ronnie Wells Main Stage at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival in Rockville, MD. JAO Opening for
Delfeayo Marsalis

The Jazz Academy Orchestra will be opening for Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra at the Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival Mardi Gras style gala. This is a pre-festival fundraising event at the Hilton Hotel and Executive Meeting Center, 1750 Rockville Pike, Rockville, MD 20852
